Intrinsic

Intrinsic Installation

Like Wanderlust, Intrinsic is a reflection on my desire to travel beyond what I have conventionally understood to be my limitations, and answers how I would make such an attempt. To build the sculptures I program a CNC router to carve a topographical sculpture of a fictional place. Then I use an airbrush to paint landscapes on the topography, showing little human modification. I pour several layers of epoxy on to the sculpture. I cut the roads and buildings into epoxy layers with a CNC router and then cast pigmented epoxy. I program the white roads and buildings based on the sculpture.

The topography of the sculpture represents mobility conflicts in the natural world. The blue route is the best route between two arbitrary points. This route is based on my own decision making process when faced with a mobility conflict. This process is complex and involves deciding on the risks and rewards of various alternatives, such as length and slope. A viewer must look at several pieces to better understand my decision making process and my point of view.
